Improving Quality Education (IQE) Programmes

The Improving Quality of Education Programme encompasses four additional projects designed to enhance learning outcomes for children and young people, with a particular focus on girls, underprivileged children, and indigenous youth in the remote rural areas of Kratie province, Cambodia.

Girls in STEM project

Promoting girls’ participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is important for Cambodia’s future development. Although Cambodia has made progress in improving access to education, many girls, especially those from rural and disadvantaged communities, still face barriers to entering STEM fields. These barriers include limited access to technology, a lack of female role models, traditional beliefs about gender roles, and fewer opportunities for practical learning. Supporting girls in STEM can help them develop skills, confidence, and career opportunities while contributing to Cambodia’s economic and social development.

Floating Schools project

Floating schools in Kampong Chhnang Province provide education opportunities for children living in communities along the Tonle Sap River. These schools help children who face challenges accessing regular schools due to their water-based lifestyle and remote locations. Teachers provide lessons in Khmer, mathematics, English, and life skills while promoting hygiene, environmental awareness, and child protection. Floating schools play an important role in reducing school dropout rates and ensuring that vulnerable children can continue learning and building a better future.

Indigenous Village  Schools

Indigenous students from Okreing Sencheay District face many challenges when continuing their studies at lower secondary schools in Kratie town. Many students must travel about 90 km from their homes, making access to education difficult due to transportation costs, accommodation needs, and financial pressures on their families. Support is needed to help them continue their education and achieve their goals.
